Salar de Uyuni is the biggest salt flat land around the globe. It is situated at Potosí and Oruro in South west Bolivia, a country in the southern part of America. Behind this salt flat land, there are unique historical sceneries ranging from lakes to plateaus.
Within the salt land there are lakes, some of which have salt and others have fresh waters. Mountains around them give no room for outlets, while the flat land has a large number of mining plants. Among other chemicals, there is a huge percentage of lithium found there, which is an important component to manufacture electrical batteries.
Sodium, magnesium and potassium are also found there. Salar de Uyuni is a home for a larger number of species of birds including flamingos, some of which are very rare in other parts of the world. It also has vegetation which provides the breeding area for these birds.
This is a place which serves as a major tourist attraction in the country. Hotels in Salar de Uyuni are very uniquely built with blocks cut from salt cubes. It has a large straight land surface, providing great distance for measuring satellites equipment. Another attraction in the zone is the train cemetery, a group of trains that were abandoned when the mining industry crashed, back in the 1940s.
