Glass Beach is located near Fort Bragg, California, United States. The beach is filled with millions of tiny pieces of glass mixed with the sand. These small particles of glass came from years of dumping garbage into an area of coastline near the northern part of the town.
Several years ago, this part of the town was known as “The Dumps“, as it was a local habit to throw garbage over the cliffs that surround the area. In 1967, authorities prevented this biological hazard to continue by closing the area and starting a cleanup process which would last several years.
This included smashing everything into small pieces, which would eventually cover the beach’s sand with these colorful pieces. Nowadays, this once health hazard has become a tourist attraction and thousands visit this place every year.
